With the love for technology, 3e mag crews attend the industrial automation exhibition 2016 for finding the latest technology.  In this exhibition, we found a group of people were holding portable devices to scan things.  This scene had raised our curiosity, so we take further steps to know more these devices.

As we take further steps to know these devices, we found the devices were 3D scanners.  With the technology improved in recent years, 3D scanners are not limited as an application of 3D printing.  In fact, 3D scanning is used in many industries, such as manufacturing, technology, animation, and medical industry.  With 3D scanning, people in various industries will benefit from more materials.

Take medical industry as an example, 3D scanning will help patients with missing limbs or facial features to rebuild their missing parts.  With 3D scanning, doctors can build more precise prosthesis for patients and provide 3D simulation and prediction for operations.

3D scanning can also feature in filmmaking.  In Jurassic world, the believable dinosaurs are created with 3D scanning.  After building the prototypes of dinosaurs, the production crew turns them into the 3D models with 3D scanners which greatly reduce the time of post-production and improve the quality of animated dinosaurs.

In the exhibition, the vendor displayed serval portal scanners, which are lightweight and compact. They also demonstrated how their products work.  The user only needs to connect the scanners with notebooks or pads via USB, and they are ready to scan.  With few minutes, the scanning of a palm-sized object will complete.  The 3D modeling is also done under few minutes.  With these features, the scanners are great for outdoor user like archaeologists.

For now, the technology of 3D scanning is still costly and served for some specific markets, but in the future, the scanner may be installed in your phone or any portable devices. Letting you have the easiest experience of 3D scanning.
